Wine List
Green Acres is built upon land developed in the 1840s by Agoston Haraszthy, a Hungarian immigrant born into nobility and known as The Count. He is often credited as the Father of California Wine. That journey began here in Sauk Prairie, along the Wisconsin River. Leaving Hungary, Harazsthy settled here with his family, established a ferry crossing, riverboat, brick yard and experimented with grapevines.
In 1849 he left Wisconsin, traveled to California, and continued to seek the best land for growing grapes. He embarked on a journey through Europe, researching and collecting over a thousand vine cuttings and sending them to California. He then meticulously recorded the many trials and errors of growing grapes on his own Sonoma vineyard.

History
About Us
The original property, now known as Green Acres, was constructed in the late 1800s. The building has been used for many different businesses, including a stagecoach resting area, general store, tavern, dance hall and many different styles of restaurants. In the 1930s, Jack Hammerli acquired the building, and from the late 1930s until 1972 it was known as River Tavern or Jack’s Riverside Inn. Leonard and Evelyn Breunig managed the establishment between 1936 – 1946. For over three decades, Jack and Leone “Frenchy” grew its reputation as one of Sauk Prairie’s best places to gather and enjoy a night out. In 1972, Maynard and Delores Wood bought the supper club. Woody and Dolly successfully ran Wood’s Riverside Inn for thirteen years before selling it. In 1986, Ted and Amy Klein began managing the newly named Green Acres. They bought it in 1990 and, with a dedicated staff, continued building its success and reputation for excellence for thirty remarkable years. In May of 2017 Dan and Kris Cunningham purchased the property to continue its wonderful history of great food, an old-fashioned friendly gathering place, and service to community.
